In 2009 I directed the 1 minute trailer for the East End Film Festival. The brief was completely open so I had the freedom to come up with the concept and character designs from scratch.
The uniquesness to this festival is that it screens films in many different locations around East London. This fact and the logo, comprising of 7 eyes, inspired my concept.
I designed 7 characters that would each have their own logo eye to use as a magical porthole, enabling them to travel from reality into another realm. I chose 7 locations the festival was being screened at, and took photos of the spaces so that each character would have it's own East End London area. The character would use their eye in their own individual way within their space, to pass into another world, an exciting world of film!
The sound was designed & composed by the very talented award winning David Schweitzer.
I animated the characters in Flash and then composited them on the background photos in After Effects, adding camera shakes to make the over appearance more like a live action film.
